Get Guided Norway · Kjerag, from Stavanger
A local guide picks you up at your Stavanger hotel in an electric car, drives you inland to Øygardstøl and hikes Kjerag with your party alone. Pick it if you want the hike at your own pace, with someone whose whole attention is on you.

Get Guided Norway runs Kjerag as a private day. One guide, who also holds a commercial driving licence, collects you at your accommodation in Stavanger and drives an electric car east, with a 15-minute stop in Sirdal on the way out and another at Byrkjedal on the way back. The listing allows about six hours at Kjerag itself, including the safety briefing, and about 12 hours door to door.
The private format changes the hike more than you'd think. Your guide sets the pace to yours, chooses when to stop, and in clear weather may add a second viewpoint. Parking at Øygardstøl, a traditional Norwegian snack at the top and crampons when there is still snow are included, and full hiking gear can be borrowed if you ask in advance. One guest, aged 70, wrote that the guide held their hand on the difficult parts. On a group day that kind of attention is shared between eight people.
The honest catches: it costs about twice the group price per person, and the listing is small, with few reviews so far. The operator also decides on the day whether the weather is safe, and says local forecasts are unreliable, which is true of the plateau. The trail is the same 11 km and three steep climbs each way that everyone does.
Your guide collects you in Stavanger and heads inland toward Sirdal.
A short break in Sirdal municipality before the last hour of road.
The final stretch up onto the mountain plateau to the trailhead car park.
A safety briefing on the route and weather, then about two to three hours of hiking to the plateau some 1,000 m above the Lysefjord, time at the boulder and the walk back.
A stop at Byrkjedal on the way down, then the final hour to your hotel.

Same trail, same boulder. You get your own guide and car, pickup at your hotel, your own pace and a flexible schedule, plus parking, a snack and crampons. The group tour takes up to eight people in a van for about half the price.
Ten. The operator also rules it out for people with mobility impairments, respiratory problems or impaired sight.
Yes. Full hiking gear is free on request, but ask in advance. Crampons are provided when conditions need them.
No death from a fall off the boulder is on record, as far as published sources show, but the ledge is about 30 cm wide and has no railing. It is a choice, not part of the tour. Our safety guide explains the risk.
